Ongoing Projects

Unnatural Causes

The SAC is screening the PBS documentary series entitled, “Unnatural Causes – Is Inequality Making Us Sick?”, which explores the correlation between physical health and racial and socio-economic status for members of local churches and the general public. The Peace and Justice Center, Grace Epsicopal Church and the Diversity Institute are among the co-sponsors. Rod Gereda of the Peace Center will lead the discussion following each screening. For further information and questions, please contact Margaret.

Food Drive

The SAC is conducting a packaged food collection throughout the year for the disadvantaged in our region. If you wish to contribute, bring canned or boxed food items to church on Sunday and they will be distributed to local soup kitchens. For further information and questions, please contact Margaret.

Indian Festival Fundraiser for the Khasi Hills Orphanage/School

The third annual Indian Festival is planned for after church on March 21, 2010. In addition to a potluck supper of Indian food, there will be a small Chinese Raffle and a second offering to raise funds for the support of our sponsored child, Kromdihok Tangsang, at the Annie Margaret Barr Children’s Village Orphanage and School in the Khasi Hills of northeastern India, located near our partner UU church. At present, there are 14 children living in the orphanage. Thank you so much for your generosity. For further information and questions, please contact Margaret.

Are you interested in other projects?

All it takes is one advocate to initiate new Social Action projects. Examples include: Literacy programs, Prison ministry (Exodus), Habitat for Humanity, Food Kitchen, foster care, homeless shelters, Big Brothers/Big Sisters. If you have a pet project that’s not represented here, speak with Margaret.
